Sheldon

When new owners took over this historic Devon court, they saw a whole lot of potential – and came ready to give it the revamp it had been quietly waiting for. A previous extension had darkened the once-bright kitchen, and flooding from a burst mains pipe had left the first floor feeling sorry for itself. Upstairs, the layout needed a rethink too.

Only too glad to help return Sheldon to glory, we were brought in to strip back water-damaged walls, floors and plaster. Then, structural repairs in brick and timber for the walls, floors and chimneys – followed by lime plastering, reroofing and leadwork.

Building it back

Once we were back to the bones of the home, it was time to weave in the modern essentials. New electrical services went in throughout, before we fitted bespoke joinery that helped celebrate the home’s original Georgian proportions. Modern interventions like these call for the same careful judgement as every other part of the project.

The missing link

Finally, it was time to join the dots. A new timber and stone oriel building with a lead-covered roof now connects two parts of the house that had never quite spoken to one another before, making the whole place feel brighter and easier to live in.
